Are you new to the planner community and excited about your new hobby but need clarification on all of the abbreviations and jargon thrown around on Instagram and Facebook communities? If yes, you’re in the right place! Researching the different lingo used among the planner community has been a year-long project since I typically use one brand for my planning needs, so there’s been a lot to learn!
Disclaimer: All explanations are my interpretation.
Planner Styles:
Discbound – Discbound planners are versatile, allowing you to personalize your planner to fit your lifestyle as long as you have the proper disc paper punch. Instead of being bound, it is held together with plastic or metal discs.
Twin-Loop – Twin-loop planners are a form of coil planners that are bounded by wire coils. This planner style does not allow personalization, so you cannot add additional pages.
Softbound – Softbound planners generally come with faux leather or material like cover and backing. The pages are either stapled or stitched.
Binder – Binder planners, are versatile due to their (school) binder style, allowing you to remove and add pages at any time!

Terms:
Frakenplan – A Planner you DIY.
Catchall – A planner used for any and everything.
Washi – Colorful repositionable tape.
Bleed thru – When the ink is visible on the back of the planner’s page.

Planner Peace: When a planner is satisfied with their selection.
Spread – The completed look of the current week within a planner after being decorated.

Planner Styles
Vertical – This planner layout typically includes three vertical boxes for the given day – think one box for the morning, afternoon, and evening. It’s a perfect layout if you want to be creative and decorate your spread.
Horizontal – This planner layout typically includes one large horizontal box for each given day with lines similar to a notebook. This is perfect if you write a lot or will use the layout for journaling.
Hourly – This planner layout typically includes one large vertical box with several 30-minute increment time slots to write in your plans starting from either 6 AM or 7 AM until at least 8 PM.

$2 Tuesday– Usually held on Tuesdays by sticker shops to offer stickers at a discounted rate for $2.
Common Planner sizes:
A4 = 8.2″ x 11.7″
A5 = 5.8″ x 8.3″
Classic = 7” x 9”
Big / Letter size = 8.5″ x 11″
Half letter size = 5.5″ x 8.5″
