If you’re like me, you find yourself worrying about how you manage your time. Of course, you want to make sure there’s enough time for everything, but you also want to avoid getting bogged down in constant stress or feeling overwhelmed. So, today I am sharing some simple tips that can help you out.
Prioritize your tasks according to how important or urgent they are.
If you have a long list of tasks that needs to get done, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. When we’re caught up in one project or task, it can be hard to remember why our work is important and worth doing in the first place.
The best way to keep track of your priorities is by prioritizing them according to how urgent (or not) they are. In other words: what’s more important? What do I need right now? Or will this particular task take longer than usual because I need to get used to working on it regularly?
Note the time you spend on each task, including those that distract you from the primary task.
To get a clear picture of how you spend your time, it’s important to track it. You can do this using a timer on your phone. If you’d prefer not to use your phone, here are a few alternatives:
- Time block cube
- Kitchen timers (or timers from other tools): If you have an old-fashioned kitchen timer , then use that instead! But if not…try searching online for other options like this one from Amazon here.
Put tasks on your schedule.
Estimate how long each task will take and put it on your schedule for that day.
Putting things on your schedule helps you stay focused and track what needs to be done. Of course, you can’t do everything in a day, so focus on what’s most important for the day. If you need to figure out how long something will take, estimate as best you can and then adjust later if needed.
Multitasking is a myth. Focus on one task at a time.
Multitasking is a myth. You can only do one thing at a time and expect to get everything done in the time allotted by any set deadlines. If you try to multitask, you’ll likely be more distracted than focused on what you’re doing and will end up wasting time instead of accomplishing anything meaningful.
Focus on one task at a time! This does not mean that there aren’t times when multiple things need to be completed simultaneously, but if possible, focus on one thing at a time so that everything else gets done as quickly as possible without being rushed or rushed through haphazardly (which could lead to mistakes).
Give yourself weekly, monthly, and yearly goals as well as daily ones.
Make sure the goals are actually achievable in the timeline set. Focus on one goal at a time, and try to do only a little in one day or week. However, don’t be discouraged if you don’t achieve your goals; it just means you have found a way that didn’t work this time. If something isn’t working out, try something else next time!
Reward yourself for getting things done.
You could treat yourself or do something fun or relaxing. Try to avoid rewarding yourself with food, as it can trigger overeating later in the day. Examples of rewards you could give yourself include:
- A massage
- Going out for coffee with your friends
- A movie night
- A new book
Remember, setting goals and planning out your day to achieve them is essential. But remember the importance of having fun too! You don’t have to be stressed out about time management if you ensure that your tasks are done on time and enjoy the process along with them!
